Identifying my target audience is very important at this stage of my project because it helps me understand what people (my future viewers) around me enjoy watching. By knowing their preferences and age range, I can create my script around their expectations and create a film opening that feels engaging and welcoming. To do this, I created a questionnaire, which I then distributed to my friend group and close family members. I used google forms in which I created questions which were straight to the point and easy to understand, considering that the native language in my country is not English.
Below are the questions:
How old are you?
14-18
18-30
30-60
Gender
Female
Male
Do you prefer movies or tv shows more?

Neither
What kinds of movies are you interested in?

Romance
Action
Psychological Thriller
Drama
Family
Horror
Mystery
Sci-fi
Fantasy
How do you prefer to watch movies?
Cinema

Subscription sites (Netflix, Prime, HBO)
DVD
On TV (cable)
Do you enjoy spiritual/psychological based movies?

No
I haven’t watched any but I am interested
What kind of film opening do you prefer? (the first 2-5 minutes of a movie)
Cold Open (starts dramatic or intriguing before any details or credits, usually seen in action, horror and comedy movies)
Prologue (provides a backstory)
Flashback (a scene from the future or past)
Narrative (Voice over, the protagonist introduces themselves)
Montage Opening (a series of quick, visually connected shots often with background music)
Animated
Establishing shot (shows the setting or environment)
Would you like to be a part of my film opening? Please contact me if you do :)
Yes
No
The first 30 seconds of my film opening will be a montage of different eyes. To achieve this I added the last question, asking those taking the questionnaire if they would like to be apart of my film opening. I hope that I will gain new actors, for now I have 5 family members that volunteered to model.
